AN elated Hannah England will go into this weekend’s Aviva UK Championships and Wor-ld Trials in Birmingham brimming with confidence.

And there is good reason for that after the 24-year-old smashed her 1500m personal best in Barcelona last week.

In a fast race at the European Athletics Premium meeting in Spain, England clocked 4mins 1.89secs – taking more than two seconds off her previous best of 4.04.29 set in 2009.

It was also comfortably inside the A standard of 4.05.9 for the world championships and London 2012 Olympics.

England said: “I was extremely pleased and surprised with that run.

“I was aiming to achieve the A standard, so was over the moon to better this by four seconds.

“It’s particularly satisfying given my five weeks off with an Achilles injury in May and June.”

England finished third in Barcelona behind winner Etakerina Gorbunova, of Russia, and Natalia Rodriguez, of Spain.

But her time puts her top of the UK rankings for 2011, so she will go into the weekend with high hopes.

England added: “There were times this year where I thought I might not have a track season at all.

“Now I’m fully focused on cementing my place in the world chammpionship team and building on the form that I am in.”

Qualifying for the 1500m takes place on Friday evening, with the final on Saturday afternoon.
