OXFORD City’s youngsters finished joint-sixth in the Wessex League after an impressive showing in the final round of the season at Horspath Road.

City finished second behind Basingstoke in the match, and joint-sixth out of 20 teams.

In the last round, Basingstoke secured the title with a comfortable victory on 480.5 points, with City amassing 366.5 points overall.

In the under 13 girls’ competition, Alice Hopkins kicked off the meeting with a personal best and national grade two time of 12.22 secs in the 70m hurdles.

Charlotte Stafford won the 800m in a national grade one time of 2.28.5.

Alice Byles won the 100m and 200m in times of 13.5 and 27.12 respectively.

Further good performances in the B string events saw City’s under 13 girls win the match and finish joint first in their category in the league.

The under 15 girls finished eighth in the table, while the under 17 girls were seventh.

Elisha Evans was the pick of the under 15 girls, clocking a grade four performance and personal best of 5.08.0 in the 1500m.

In the under 17 category, Adela Hussain ran personal bests of 13.01 and 27.02 in the 100m and 200m.

Not to be outshone, City’s boys hit form with a crop of A and B string victories helping them to second place.

Stars of the under 13s were once again Adam Smith, Nirushan Parameswaran and Robby Crowther, who all performed well in the 100m, discus, high jump, javelin and long jump.

The under 15s found victories harder to come by, although Aidan Whiting improved his 80m hurdles personal best with a time of 13.67.

A small under 17 boys’ team made its mark with Ifeanyi Echeta improving his pb to take second in the A string 200m (23.86).
