OXFORD Ladies duo Maggie Edwards and Anne Clarke won the County Shield on their home course at Southfield.

The pair carded 56 points for the 27-hole event, aided by a chip-in for birdie at their 19th hole.

Frilford Heath’s Sue Russell and Sara Alden took second on countback from Maggie Findlay and Tracy Roberts (Oxford Ladies), with both teams scoring 53.

Margaret Chaundy and Fay Banks, from Frilford Heath, finished in fourth place with 50 points.

Wendy Smith and Jenny Keeble (Studey Wood) won the morning 18-hole prize with 34 stableford points.

Oxford Ladies’ Judy Mc-Cairns and Rosie Caunt scored 19 points to take the afternoon nine-hole award.

  • SOUTHFIELD’S long-serving pro Tony Rees was awarded a commemorative scroll and tie at a lunch celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Professional Golfers’ Association Training Programme.

Rees, who has been a pro for 56 years, was joined in the Great Hall at Birmingham University by Oxford City captain Ray Davies, president Ron Creese, past captains Jim Duthie, Dave Jones and Alan Butler, plus committee member Mike Rothery.

  • HINKSEY Heights members Simon Ray and James Bowler played 72 holes in 13 hours on their home course to support Oxford’s Sobell House Hospice.

The pair teed off at 5.40am, carried their own bags and holed out every put to raise over £1,000 for the charity.
