HORSPATH joined hosts Gerrards Cross in the Division 2 West drop zone – despite getting the better of their drawn relegation battle on Saturday.

Having been put in to bat on a green pitch, Horspath posted 209-7 off their 60 overs, before restricting Gerrards Cross to 167-8.

Released from the shackles of captaincy, opener Robbie Eason led the way with 85 in Horspath’s innings.

His knock included five fours and a six, and it took a spectacular one-handed catch by Matt Watson on the long on boundary to bring it to an end.

Eason was well supported by Jimmy Phillips (34) and fellow opener Matt O’Connor (31), before off-spinner Steve Rimmer (4-89) and leg-spinner Watson (3-62) pegged back the visitors.

Horspath picked up wickets at regular intervals in the Gerrards Cross innings, but without possessing the cutting edge to claim victory.

New captain Adam Krol and Mark Skelton both claimed two victims, and there was a brilliant catch by Phillips, while Watson top-scored with 39 for Gerrards Cross.
