Oxfordshire crews bagged a total of six gold medals, two silver and one bronze at the British National Championships in Nottingham.

City of Oxford’s women’s team of Sian Findlay, Jane Loveday, Nicola Smith and Keren Ward took the coxed four, with Ward and Smith taking the coxless pair titles.

Their men’s team finished third in the open men’s eights – the first national championship medal ever won by a City heavyweight eight.

The success of the women’s four led to them being selected for the England team in the Home Countries match in Scotland this weekend.

Cloudy Carnegie continued her success in a composite eight, likely to be the junior B British crew this year, which took a silver in the women’s eights and also won bronze in the pairs.

Wallingford too had a successful weekend, thanks mainly to their juniors.

Leanne Reeves took gold in a heavily subscribed women’s junior 15 sculls, completing a hat-trick of wins this season led off by earlier junior Inter-regional and National Schools golds.

She also won a silver in the composite Wallingford/City of Oxford crew in the junior 15 quad sculls.

Meanwhile, Wallingford’s George Axon and Elijah Haydon added to the weekend’s tally with a junior 16 doubles win at Molesey Regatta.

Wallingford and City were not the only locals to achieve success at Holme Pierrepont.

Will Sadler, from the Abingdon School’s winning Henley eight, won gold in a composite junior coxless four, another possible international line-up, and a composite Isis/ London gold medal double scull included Tom Watson as the Isis member.

Mason Durant and Fred Gill, of Oxford Brookes, needed no help from members of any other clubs to win the men’s coxless pairs title.

Thirteen members of Oxfordshire clubs will be in the British Under 23 team in Amsterdam this weekend. A record 63 nations will compete.
