Adam Muttitt scored his first county century, but could not inspire Oxon Under 16 to victory as they were beaten by seven wickets in their clash against against Buckinghamshire at Radley College.

Oxon will point to a poor first innings as the key to the defeat.

Winning the toss, Oxon chose to bat first, but were shot out in only 46 overs for 114.

Only a rearguard action from the middle order got them into three figures.

Bucks lost a wicket in the first over, but they recovered well from the early setback to go past Oxfordshire’s first innings total.

Debutant left-arm spinner Chris Leaney, who plays for Aston Rowant, returned excellent figures of 5-51 from a marathon 21-over spell, but this did not prevent Bucks declaring 55 runs in front.

Oxfordshire’s second innings again began poorly, but a magnificent fourth-wicket stand of 139 between captain Muttitt and Henry Sensecall finally got Oxon on track.

Muttitt completed a maiden county century, before Oxon’s innings fell away towards the end as they pushed for quick runs, Joe Butcher hitting two sixes in a quickfire 19.

Bucks cruised home in their second innings, led by Saif Zaib, who finished unbeaten on 60.
