HANNAH England was satisfied with her seventh place finish in the 1500 metres in yesterday’s Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix.

An Achilles injury had delayed the start of England’s outdoor season, but she produced a steady display to come home in 4mins 7.79secs in only her second run of the campaign.

The injury was particularly frustrating on the back of an impressive indoor season, which included being selected for the European Championships.

But England says that she is no longer feeling the injury, and is pleased with the way her comeback is going.

“I was pleased to be in a race of this nature,” she said.

“My time was nearly three seconds faster than my first race back in Cork.

“My plan is for every race to be faster than the previous one. But I feel that I am on the up.”

As usual, England stayed at the back of the field until the bell, where she worked her way through the field.

The race was won by American Morgan Uceny in 4.05.64.

England’s target this year is the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea at the end of August – but only in the 1500m.

She has said that she will not attempt the 800m as she did in last year’s Commonwealth Games.
