POPPY Smith led a med-al charge on a successful day for Abingdon GC in the Oxfordshire County Championships at the Phoenix Gym, Maidenhead.

Smith’s superb floor routine won her the gold medal in the senior level two category and qualified her for the regional championship at Portsmouth in September.

She just pipped clubmate Rachel Willett, who took silver.

Vicky Jones and Rosie Isom shared the gold medal at senior level three category and Chloe Palmer bronze.

Rebecca Griffin struck gold in junior level three after a superb score of 13.50 for a faultless beam routine.

At level four, Isobel Hobbs won gold with a score of 45.55. It was five marks ahead of the runner-up place gymnast as she won on every apparatus.

Kerry Underwood took gold in the junior section.

In the senior category, Ab-ingdon’s Bethan Probert, Gabriella Merola and Lottie Onion took gold, silver and bronze respectively.

In the junior level five, Anna Regan stormed to gold with a score of 46.10 clearing her rivals by three marks. Alice Onion won bronze.

Five girls from Carterton shone on floor, vault, bars and beam.

Natasha Granville won bronze in level four with 38.85, while Molly Mullins claimed silver in level four junior with 45.35. Georgia Bishop took bronze with 42.85.

Ella Frost and Ella Mead competed at level 3 senior. Frost scored 40.80 for bronze, while Mead finished fifth with 38.70.
