KATHERINE O’Connor won two titles in a week to go second in the Ping Ladies’ Welsh Order of Merit.

The 21-year-old Tadmarton Heath member claimed the Pleasington Putter at Pleasington, Lancashire, having earlier scooped the Bridget Jackson Bowl at Handsworth for the second time in three years.

At Pleasington, the Welsh international opened with a level-par round of 74 and then shot a 71 to take the £500 first prize by one shot from Ami Storey (Pontesland) and two clear of Charlotte Austwick (Fulford).

This gave her a third Order of Merit crown of the season, with the Bridget Jackson Bowl being her second.

Scores of 68 and 70 gave O’Connor a six-under-par total of 138 and a five-shot margin over US university student Liz Haycock (Moseley).

In so doing, she joined a very select group, including European Tour players Trish Johnson and Rebecca Hudson, as multiple winners of the bowl.

Prior to that, O’Connor finished 11th in the Irish Ladies Open at Elm Park, Dublin.

  • BURFORD junior Abi Laker finished eighth in the English Schools Championship at Belton Park.

The Henry Box School, Witney, pupil carded rounds of 78 and 75 for a seven-over-par total of 153, which saw her named as reserve for the England versus Scotland schools match in September.

  • OXFORDSHIRE’S junior girls lost 5-2 to Bucks at Oakland Park, with Emily Keel (Henley) and Olivia Herring (Studley Wood) their winners.
