Matt Paterson has been handed the chance to try to resurrect his career with Oxford United.

The Scottish striker, who has fallen out of favour with Southend United after impressing as a youngster with Southampton, is on trial at United, and will join the club on their nine-day tour of America.

The 21-year-old will also feature in the U’s first pre-season match of the season at Didcot on July 9.

Boss Chris Wilder says no decision will be made on Paterson’s future yet, but the Dunfermline-born forward will get the chance to show what he is capable of while at United.

“He is under contract at Southend, but is not part of their plans and maybe hasn’t been for a while now,” Wilder said.

“I saw him while he was playing for Southampton Reserves and thought he was decent, so it’s a good opportunity for us to take a look at him.

“He will be involved at Didcot and will join us in America.”

Goalkeeper Mike Green, who was with Bristol Rovers last season, will also feature in United’s opening pre-season friendly.

Meanwhile, Oxford have announced ticket prices for their home friendlies against MK Dons, Birmingham and an Everton XI.
