Oxford University have retained five of last year’s winning players for the four-day Varsity Match, which starts at Fenner’s today (11am).

Sam Agarwal, Tom Bryan, captain Raj Sharma, Dan Pascoe and Alex Scott all featured as Oxford beat Cambridge by an innings and 28 runs in The Parks.

That match saw all-rounder Agarwal take 5-78 to seal the win, which reversed a ten-wicket defeat in 2009.

Having lost the one-day Varsity Match at Lord’s, as they did in 2010, Oxford will hope that lightning can strike twice.

Cambridge skipper Rich-ard Timms has added Tom Deasy and James Macadam to the side that beat Oxford at Lord’s.

Former Oxford CC gloveman Gus Kennedy will keep wicket for the Light Blues Oxford Univ: Agarwal, Bryan, Williams, Sharma (capt), Jeffery, Richards, Pascoe, Chadwick, Scott, Westaway, Higham. 12th man: Gordon.

Cambridge Univ: from Timms (capt), Hughes, Ansari, Ashok, Best, Brown, Kennedy, Ashton, Hickey, Sadler, Probert , Deasy, Macadam.

l THE first international cricket match at Aston Rowant will be staged this Thursday, July 7, when they host the NatWest Women’s Quadrangular ODI Series third/fourth place play-off match between New Zealand and India.
