Oxford United are running the rule over goalkeeper Mike Green.

And the 21-year-old on Saturday returned to the ground where he was handed his debut for former employers Bristol Rovers.

However, it is a game that Green will be keen to forget – he was in goal as Oxford beat Rovers 6-1 in last season’s Carling Cup.

The keeper came through the ranks at the Memorial Ground, but was released at the end of last season having played only four times for the first team, twice in League One, once in the FA Cup and that Carling Cup clash.

United boss Chris Wilder is looking for a new No 2 goalkeeper after Simon Eastwood joined FC Halifax last month, having failed to make one appearance for United last season thanks to the fine form of Ryan Clarke.

“We’re having a look at him at the moment,” Wilder said at the club’s Open Day on Saturday.

“We’ll see how he does and then make a decision.”

United play their first pre-season match away to Didcot Town on Saturday.

It is expected that most of the U’s squad will play some part in the opening friendly.
