Chris Wilder is targeting three new players to boost the squad ahead of the start of the League Two campaign in August.

The Oxford United manager got his squad together for the first time this week as they underwent fitness tests at Oxford Brookes University.

But although he is happy with the business he has done so far, Wilder says that he wants to add a trio of new faces – and is waiting on news of the quartet of players he has made available for transfer As well as an understudy to goalkeeper Ryan Clarke, Wilder would like to recruit a midfielder and another striker.

And United’s boss has no further news of striker Matt Green, midfielder Simon Clist and defenders Ben Purkiss and Steve Kinniburgh, who are all free to leave the club.

“They and their agents are involved in talks,” Wilder said.

“There is a bit of a lull at the moment, but I would say things are bubbling away.

“We do have those players at the club and it is something we are mindful of.”

Wilder, though, is very satisfied with his signings.

“We are happy with the business we have done,” he said.

“Myself, Mickey (Lewis) and Kelvin (Thomas) have worked really hard in getting the players we want.

“We haven’t had to blast people out of the water (in terms of money), we talk about the ambitions we have for the club – what we have done so far and what we can do.

“Myself and Alan Hodgkinson (goalkeeping coach) have been working on the goalkeeping situation and are pretty comfortable with that.

“We are looking at possibly bringing in a left-footed midfielder and a forward.”
