Jimmy Gooch, a leading light in the treble-winning Oxford Cheetahs side of 1964, has passed away, aged 82.
Essex-born Gooch moved to Oxford in 1964 – a switch that transformed the fortunes of both rider and club. Gooch formed a formidable opening pairing with Ron How as Oxford won a first division treble of National League, National Trophy and Britannia Shield.
He spent a further two seasons with Oxford in 1965 and 1966.
He retired from speedway at the end of the 1970 season.
