ANDY Griffiths is Drayton Park’s club champion for the third time in three decades.

Griffiths battled blustery and showery conditions to finish two shots ahead of Martin Roberts, backing up his victories in 1996 and 2002.

The morning round saw two other players, Andy Elmey and Darren Morton, alongside Griffiths on 77, with several others close behind.

Griffiths putted solidly throughout and took the title after a second-round 76.

Roberts added a 75 to his first-round 80, while two scores of 78 gave David Major third place – despite playing just three games in the past year.

John Srawley won the handicap championship with a nett score of 135, on countback from Mick Burton, with Nigel Swinford third on 137.

Tracey Painton stormed to the ladies’ title after two rounds of 80, with Suzie Hogben (170) second and Fiona Thomas (182) third.

A nett 69 earned 13-handicapper Harry Wilkinson the junior title, ahead of Nick Elmey (74) and Jack Hancock (79).

  • TOM Fleming (Frilford Heath) finished tied 12th in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship at The Belfry.

Fleming carded 74, 69, 75 and 72 for a two-over-par total.

West Berks pro Paul Simpson, who lives in Witney, came 34th on 296 shots, but Southfield’s Martin Morbey missed the cut and North Oxford’s Lee Jackson withdrew.
