Megan Burton’s second half-century in three matches could not prevent Oxfordshire going down by three wickets to Cornwall at Werrington in Division 5 South & West.

After being inserted, Oxfordshire started well, with Bridget Rhodes-Moore scoring 20 at greater than a run a ball.

Rhodes-Moore went for one big shot too many and Genny Porter fell to a first ball lbw.

Oxfordshire regrouped, tha-nks to a 66-run partnership between Burton and Gemma Muttitt (21).

Burton’s 52 came off 103 balls, but she was out lbw when trying to push the score on.

No one else really got going against some difficult bowling and the Oxfordshire innings finished at 146 off 48.1 overs.

Cornwall put on 90 for the first wicket, until Viv Searle (45) chanced herself against Caitie Burton’s throw once too often and was run out.

This gave Oxon an opening, as their spinners tore through the middle order, with Rhodes-Moore (3-26) and captain Vicky Strode (3-27) to the fore.

When Elspeth Walker caught Emma Pascoe for 51 off Strode, it looked like that Oxon may have a chance of stealing the game.

Cornwall wicket-keeper Bethan Hawken (16no) extinguished any thoughts of an Oxon victory, leading her side to 147-7 with 17 balls to spare.
