CHIPPING Norton driver Alice Powell collected some useful points in testing conditions at rounds seven and eight of the Formula Renault UK Championships at Oulton Park, Cheshire.

Qualifying for the first race was interrupted by a red flag, meaning Powell was unable to complete her flying lap, and had to settle for tenth on the grid.

In the race, Powell gained two places by the first corner, but dropped back three places after struggling in the wet conditions.

She battled back again, however, and finished in ninth place.

Qualifying for the second race brought better fortunes, and at one stage, she was in third place, only to slip to sixth in the dying moments.

With conditions again wet for the race, the 18-year-old had a chance to gain a position in the race on the final lap.

But that was scuppered when she was forced onto the grass by Fortec driver Felix Serralies, meaning she had to settle for sixth place.
