HORSPATH’S Rachel Edge is recovering in Oxford’s John Radcliffe hospital after she suffered a bad injury at the Welsh Junior Open at Newport.

Edge was involved in an horrific crash in the junior women’s race and was rushed to hospital in Wales with damage to her spleen.

Mark Carmichael won men’s event, while Charlie Jane Herbert was second in the women’s competition.

HORSPATH Hammers overcame a gritty challenge from British Premier League new boys Sandwell Lions to take a 93-84 victory.

Without talismen Steve Harris and Mark Boaler, Hammers fell behind early in the match after swapping heat advantages.

But they fought back to lead at the half-way stage, following a Mark Carmichael and Chris Timms 7-3 in the eighth heat.

Another 7-3 from Mateusz Szymczak and Chris Osborne set Horspath on their way in the second half to an important victory.

Horspath maintained their lead at the top of the Combination with a 75-59 win over Sandwell.
