MP SPORTS CHERWELL LEAGUE

Division 1

Cumnor skipper Sam Jones hit a sparkling century to take his side to an eight-wicket win over Bourton Vale and third place in the table.

Vale chose to bat and posted a respectable 235-8 through Ben Hughes (82) and Henry Keeling (51), though off spinner Jones restricted the scoring with a tidy spell of 3-36.

The loss of two early wickets gave the visitors hope, but Jones (101no) and Adam Cook (95no) capitalised on a dropped chance apiece to steer Cumnor to 238-2 with five overs to spare.

Shaun Miller reinforced his status as the league’s leading spinner by taking 5-46 as Shipton-under-Wychwood beat Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts by six wickets.

Nondies’ decision to bat first looked unwise when they crumbled to 131 all out.

Simon Hole then continued his fine form with 46 while Joe Barrett struck 42 in Shipton's 133-4, which meant they climbed up to second.

All four results were possible going into the final stretch at Buckingham Town before the hosts overcame Oxford 2nd by one wicket.

Only Nick Hands (35) of the Oxford top order could get going, but Richard Beer’s late 54 not out propelled the visitors to a competitive 198-9.

Ben Stafford took 3-32 for Buckingham before watching Steve Brunning (80) hold together his side’s reply.

Tom Geeson-Brown kept Oxford in the game with 3-33, but Town just had enough to reach 200-9.

Jude Ramanadanpulle (4-21) and Saxon Wright (3-28) bowled well for Bletchley Town, who dismissed Leighton Buzzard Town for 187.

Jack Kempster hit a fine 89 for Leighton, who lost their tenth wicket in the 52nd of their 53 overs.

That meant Bletchley had 48 overs rather than 47 to attempt the run chase, and the extra six deliveries were to prove vital as they reached 188-8 with a ball to spare.

James Sprittles top-scored with 45, while Jack Kempster took 4-28.
