Nathan Harrison, the promising kart racer from Cumnor Hill, overcame a series of problems to come third in the second round of the Euro Max Challenge, held at Wackersdorf in Bavaria.
The 14-year-old qualified for the first of three heats with only minutes to spare, following the repair of a faultycarburettor.
Harrison had to start each of his three heats from 23rd on the grid.
The Matthew Arnold schoolboy took a creditable fourth in his opening heat, but a collision in the next saw him classified well down in 28th spot.
A sixth-place finish in the third heat meant he qualified 20th for the pre-final.
He carved his way through the field finishing fifth to give himself a fighting chance in the main final.
In another tense duel, he worked his way to third, which he just held on to.
The result means he is now second in the overall standings.
ELLIOT Harvey set a track record when winning the latest event at Camberley Kart Club.
Racing for Honda cadets, the nine-year-old from Didcot won all three heats to take pole for the final, which he also won.
