ECB 50+ COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

A SPECTACULAR innings from Malcolm Evans helped Oxfordshire Over 50s to their third successive Group 4 victory as they defeated previously unbeaten Worcestershire by 75 runs at Oxford Downs.

Evans struck an unbeaten 97, with four sixes and 11 fours as Oxon rattled up 294-5 from their 45 overs.

The key partnership came when Evans and former captain Andrew Wingfled Digby, making his first appearance in this year’s competition shared an unbroken 101 for the sixth wicket in just 11 overs.

Earlier, Tony Munsey had hit two sixes and eight fours in a robust 58.

Brilliant early bowling by seamer Keith Arnold and off-spinner Rob Willis restricted Worcestershire to 28 runs from their first ten overs, after which they were fighting a losing battle.

Wingfield Digby completed his fine match by taking three wickets late on, as Oxon, without three first-choice players, eased home.

Their next game is against Staffordshire at a rearranged venue of Cannock Chase on Wednesday.
