Defending Section 1 champions Chipping Norton experienced a topsy-turvy weekend in the Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League.

Chippy finally opened their league account for 2011 with a 2½-½ victory at Tadmarton Heath.

But they saw that result reversed 24 hours later with a home defeat to the same opponents in the Knockout Cup preliminary round.

Keith Fisher and Neil Thornton as well as Shaun Kench and Stu Allen picked up victories for Chippy.

But revenge was sweet when Spencer Hallam and Steve O’Connor thumped Neil Thornton and Will Preece 7&6 a day later.

Hallam and James Burton then sealed the spoils.

Feldon Valley received a walkover after North Oxford could not field a team for their preliminary round clash.

In Section 1, Burford saw off Studley Wood 2-1 to go second.

Burford’s Dave Summers and Simon Hopkins sealed the match after beating Steve Jenkins and Joe Fathers 3&2.

Both players scored 160 for the 36-hole contest, while Tina Gibbons took the ladies’ title on 185, three shots ahead of Beryl Garland.

James Burton won Tadmarton Heath’s qualifying event for the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship.

The 33-year-old Banbury postman and two-handicapper will team up with Tadmarton pro John Stubbs, 30, in the regional final at Little Aston on July 8.

Bicester's Laura Watkins finished tied 34th in the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews.

Watkins carded a seven-over-par 82 in the first round, which proved the only action of a tournament cut to 18 holes due to high winds.

Bill Rapley bagged a hole-in-one during a roll-up at North Oxford, acing the par three 221-yard tenth hole.
