Keith Quinell clanged off 15 dolls, including a maximum six (5-4-6) for Kidlington Sports Club B – but it was still not enough, writes ANDY BEAL.

Despite his efforts, Sports went down 2-1 to leaders Gladiators A in Section 2 of the Greene King Oxford & District League.

Gladiators won the opening leg 26-17 but lost the next 19-17.

They then set 21 in the final leg and it proved just enough as Kidlington fell one doll short with 20.

Ray Townsend was in top form as he hit 14 dolls (4-5-5) to steer Squire Bassett to a 2-1 win at The Woodman Inn.

Squire won the first leg 19-18 but Woodman came back well to claim the second leg also by the odd doll, 17-16.

Squire then set and won the deciding leg 20-18.

Colin Richardson hit a baker’s dozen (5-5-3) for Chequers C as they beat Royal Sun 2-1 in Section 3.

Chequers won the first two legs 24-18, 24-19 and Sun took a point in the last leg 22-19.

Phil Jackson from Three Horseshoes bagged a six in his 13-doll haul (5-6-2) as they beat North Oxford Con Club 2-1.

They had the game won after the first two legs, taking them 22-18, 27-15, before Con Club took a point in the last leg.

Only one doll separated Vikings A and Ampleforth Arms.Vikings won the first leg 17-14 and were then set 21 by Ampleforth in the next.

After a steady reply, Vikings fell just one doll short with 20.

Ampleforth set again in the deciding leg, this time with 19, and once again Vikings came up one short with 18 to give Ampleforth a 2-1 victory.

In the Premier Section, Steve Walton hit a six in his 14 dolls (4-4-6) but could not prevent Rowing Machine winning 2-1.

The George won the first leg 28-25 with Rowing Machine winning the next 29-23.

George set the final leg with 32 and it left Rowing Machine anchor man Eddie Lacey needing five to win.

However, Lacey did not disappoint and he hit the winning doll with his final stick.

The first two legs of Black Bull’s Section 6 match against Donnington Club were tied 12-12, 14-14 and had to be settled on three sticks, with each side taking a leg each. Black Bull won the deciding leg 16-11.

Hosts Littlemore Rugby Club scored one more doll than Nelson A, but still lost 2-1.

Nelson set the opening leg with 14 but Rugby anchor man Brian Mossop whipped off the three dolls needed to tie the leg and take it to three sticks, which Nelson won.

Nelson won the next 15-13 but the rugby men grabbed a point in the last leg 17-14.

Sam Hutton’s dozen helped Catherine Wheel beat Golden Ball after losing the first leg 17-10. They recovered well to win the next two legs 15-11, 14-13.

Nut Tree won the opening leg at Gladiators B 18-13 but it went all downhill from there.

Gladiators levelled the match in the second leg 17-13.

Nut Tree set in the final leg but could muster only seven dolls which Gladiators easily passed with 17.

The Section 9 game between Prince Of Wales and Original Swan A nearly had to be abandoned after Swan’s Charlie Proudfoot’s wayward stick smashed the overhead light.

After a few quick running repairs the game was able to finish, 2-1 in The Prince Of Wales’s favour.

Florence Park Club just got the better of The Crown in a close-fought match.

The opening leg was tied 9-9 with Park Club winning it on three sticks. They then won the next leg 12-8.

Crown won the final leg 9-7, Bob Kirby top-scoring with ten dolls (3-4-3).

Original Swan C finally got a win under their belts after beating The Holybush 2-1.

Andy Durham struck nine dolls (4-2-3) as they ran out winners 13-10, 5-11, 9-8.

Colin Bracey hit ten dolls (5-2-3) as Kennington SC B came away from George & Dragon with a 2-1 victory.

George & Dragon grabbed their first point of the season by winning the final leg 8-7.
