Berinsfield's Niamh McGuckin reached the under 13 40kg class final of the National Schoolgirl Championships next month after a determined victory over her more experienced Welsh rival Amie Morris at Newbury.

McGuckin, 12, who was unchallenged in the Home Counties, saw her greater accuracy triumph in a phenomenally-paced three-round encounter that prompted a richly-deserved standing ovation.

No date and venue for the final has yet been announced.

Featherweight Edward ‘Jordan’ Reilly, 14, went on the attack from the bell in his clash with Finchley southpaw Alex Zendra.

The Londoner started to struggle with the pace and resorted to holding – prompting a public warning from referee Kevin Mason.

Reilly then cruised through the final session to collect his ninth win from ten outings.

And 22-year-old welterweight Joe Harris made it a hat-trick for the Berinsfield contingent with a determined victory over Turners ABC rival Charlie Potter on his ring baptism.

But he had to come from behind after his taller Surrey opponent set the initial pace, before imposing his authority to boss the last two sessions.

Blackbird Leys southpaw Les Hill also saw his arm raised in triumph over Welsh opposition at Newbury after chalking up his eighth win with a slick and fluent display to outpoint featherweight rival Ross Jones.

But there was disappointment for Berinsfield welterweight Parmoth Dewan at Bracknell as the 17-year-old southpaw looked to have the edge, but did not get the verdict over William Newland, from the host Pinewood Starr gym.
