DAVE Sawyer hit his second double sixer of the season (4-6-6) to guide The George to a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Headington British Legion in the Premier Section, writes ANDY BEAL.

Kevin Giles also chipped in with a six in his 13 dolls as they won all three legs 30-26, 27-24, 34-26.

Cricketers also had a 3-0 success, against Black Swan, but had their final three players to thank for the whitewash.

After winning the opener 29-23, Cricketers were chasing 26 in the next leg.

After five players, they had only 12 on the board.

Needing 15 from their last three players, Geoff Townsend started the fightback with a six.

Kevin Baker followed up with a four and anchor man Den Seller finished off the job with a five – hitting the winning doll from his last stick.

They then went on to take maximum points, winning the final leg 28-26.

Three Pigeons and Six Bells Kidlington both hit 87 dolls in their clash, but it was Six Bells who edged home 2-1.

Pigeons set 31 in the first leg, and Six Bells got off to the perfect reply with Fred Sawyer smashing a six.

However, with the middle-order failing to fire, it still left anchor man Steve Ward needing six to tie the leg, which he did to take the leg to three sticks, which Six Bells won.

Bells then won the next leg 25-24 with Three Pigeons grabbing a point in the last leg, winning 32-31.

Sawyer top-scored with 15 dolls (6-4-5).

In Section 4, Simon Hopkins blasted off a bakers’ dozen (4-4-5) as Green Road Club came from behind to defeat Masons Arms 2-1.

Masons won the first leg 18-14, but Green Road came storming back to take the next two 28-16, 21-14.

Pete Hithman led the way with 14 dolls (5-4-5) as the Griffin just got the better of Garsington Sports B 2-1.

Griffin won the opening leg 21-11 and then set 20 in the next.

After a steady reply, Garsington’s anchor man Len Wing needed four to win, which proved no problem as he clanged off five to level the match.

Griffin set 23 in the deciding leg, which proved just too strong for Sports, who fell two short.

It was an unlucky 13 for Donnington A’s Brian Simpson in Section 5 as he bagged himself a six in his bakers’ dozen (3-6-4), but couldn’t stop his side from losing 2-1 to Cricketers A.

Donnington outscored their opponents, but went down 18-19, 25-16, 18-21.

Darren St John was in superb form with 14 dolls (5-5-4) as New Club B defeated local rivals King & Queen Wheatley 2-1.

They won the first two legs 23-15, 23-18 with King & Queen claiming a point in the final leg 19-18.

In Section 6, only one doll separated Gladiators B and Quarry Gate A, with two of the legs going to three sticks.

Gladiators won the first leg on three sticks, and clinched the second 17-16.

Quarry grabbed a point in the finale, winning on three sticks after the leg was tied 15-15.

Brill Club B amassed 58 dolls in Section 7, but it was still not enough as they lost out to Red Lion Islip – who hit seven fewer.

Brill’s Alan Horton (4-4-3) and Red Lion’s Derek Brook (5-3-3) top-scored.

Barrie Tollerson clanged off a steady dozen dolls (4-4-4) for Fairview Inn B as they defeated Donnington Club B 2-1 in Section 9.

Priory A came away from Kings Arms Wheatley with maximum points as they won all three legs 11-8, 13-11, 14-13, with anchor man Brian Reidy knocking off the five dolls needed to win the last leg.
