Didcot Barramundi swimmer Alex Murphy, 15, broke his third British junior record this year, when he won the 100m breaststroke in 1min 2.82secs at the Hatfield SC UK Challenge.

His time is both a regional and county and open record.

Meanwhile, three Didcot swimmers took gold medals in the Tigersharks Level 2 Open at Swindon.

Bronze: P Concannon, 12, 200m IM; R Martin, 12, 200m IM; D Springett, 13, 200m freestyle & 100m backstroke; D Murphy, 12, 400m freestyle.

l City of Oxford’s Fabian Whitbread (18) won gold and double bronze at Hatfield.

Whitbread took gold in the 200m individual medley (IM) final, clocking 2.06.55.

He added bronzes in the 200m breaststroke (2.21.97) and 200m butterfly (2.09.50), also reaching the 100m backstroke final (1.00.79).

l Abingdon Vale’s Niall O’Leary, 14, achieved his 100m backstroke national time (1.04.34) in the Rotherham Metro Level 1 meet at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

O’Leary also gained the 200m backstroke (2.18.35) as a second national time.

Additionally he picked up a silver medal for his 100m backstroke and two bronzes for his 50 backstroke (30.49) and 200m backstroke.

All of these were also club records.

Abingdon’s Nienke Lijze-nga, 12, won a bronze medal for her 50m backstroke (club record) and Joseph Law, 11, did likewise in the 50m freestyle.
