OXFORDSHIRE Under 10s began their season with a 72-run victory over The Dragon School.

Oxfordshire batted first, only to give their wickets away at regular intervals.

Jake Taylor and Oliver Price gave the county side a steady start, but no batsman passed 17 and no partnership exceeded the openers’ 26 as Oxon were bowled out for 124 in 37 overs.

Harry Startin (2-9) and David White (2-18) starred at the top of the order, before Dragon skipper Jack Stacey took 3-29 to account for Oxon’s tail.

In reply, Dragon School’s Warwick Chipman was run out from the very first ball of the innings without facing, before Ben Charlesworth struck three times in his opening over.

He and George Williams ran through the top seven in quick time, and after six overs, Dragon were 20-7.

Oxon’s next match is against North Oxfordshire next Sunday.

They then take on Devon in their county opener on Sunday, June 5.
