RADLEY’S Christian Von Eitzen smashed two Oxfordshire Track & Field Championship records, including a 29-year-old mark as he won two gold medals at Horspath Road.

Von Eitzen, competing in the under 15 boys’ category in the annual event, blitzed the field in both the 800m and 1500m.

He eased to victory in the 800m, clocking an impressive time of 2mins 04.48secs, breaking the mark set by Banbury Harriers’ Mark Chatfield way back in 1982.

He broke the record by more than a second, but produced arguably an even more remarkable run in the 1500m.

Cruising to victory by 19 seconds, Von Eitzen clocked 4.22.92 - breaking the record by more than four and a half seconds in the process.

It was a weekend of many championship best performances, with some high quality athletics on show.

Bicester-based thrower Redford Curtis, competing for Marshall Milton Keynes, broke the under 15 boys’ javelin mark by more than four metres as he threw an enormous 52.17m.

Such was his dominance of the event, the second-placed thrower, Tom Anstice, finished with a best of 35.72.

In the senior men’s competition, Seb Tully-Middleton, now a Birchfield Harrier with top sprints coach Tony Hadley in Birmingham, ran a superb wind-assisted time of 10.76 to break the record in his heat of the 100m.

He then ran a legal time of 10.78 in the final to clinch the county title in style.

Records continued to tumble across the board.

Emma O’Hara (Radley) strengthened her position as the third best hammer thrower in the UK at under 17 level with a mighty throw of 46.06.

In doing so, O’Hara eclipsed her previous record for the event of 34.05, which she set last year.

Connie McMillan (Banbury), still an under 17, staked a place in the UK top ten in the 400m hurdles, winning in a championship record of 1.03.11.

There were also some notable performances in the Masters’ age group.

Henry Chitsenga (Oxford City) impressed with some classy sprinting.

He took the 200m title in a championship record of 24.98, while Banbury’s Bruce Hendrie showed age is no barrier to success with a veteran 60 record of 2.60m to win the pole vault.
