THREE former England Test players will appear at Steeple Aston on Sunday when the Lord’s Taverners take on the village side in a charity match.

Mike Gatting captains the visitors, with Graeme Hick and Gladstone Small also confirmed, while Matthew Hoggard may also feature at the Barton Abbey ground.

Steeple Aston CC chairman Peter Higgins said: “Myself and another chap in the village, Nicholas Cleobury, are both Lord’s Taverners, so we said let’s get them to come.

“The game is to raise money for disabled and disadvantaged children.

“You need to guarantee you will raise £8,000 to get the A team to come. It looks like we will raise more than twice that amount.”

The 30-overs-a-side match starts at 2pm. Entry is free and there is a bar.

Lord’s Taverners will also include ex-Warwickshire all-rounder and England one-day player Neil Smith and ex-Middlesex and Somerset man Graham Rose.

Nicholas Parsons and Barry Norman will umpire, while TV presentor Chris Tarrant, actors Gordon Kennedy, Derek Thompson and Sky Sports commentator Miles Harrison also play.

Higgins added: “We have selected our team based on those who have raised the most money.”

Gatting and Tarrant will also present a kit bag to Warriner School.
