GRAHAM SCOTT’S MATCH OF THE DAY
Cumnor and Shipton-under-Wychwood played out the kind of tedious draw that can give cricket a bad name, with neither side apparently prepared to take risks in pursuit of victory in Saturday’s Division 1 encounter.
The onus was on home side Cumnor to make the running after they won the toss and elected to field against last year’s runners-up.
And they got themselves into a great position when Shipton failed to build on captain Simon Hole’s half-century and collapsed from 91-2 to 127-8.
Adam Cook did much of the damage in a marathon spell.
But the visitors rebuilt their innings thanks to Ian Lewis and No 10 Sean Cross, whose 105-run partnership propelled their side to 232 all out.
Cook and his skipper Sam Jones laid the platform for a successful run chase, but after Jones fell three runs short of his 50, the game petered out into a draw, with each side apparently vying to be more defensive than the other.
Cumnor 6pts, Shipton 16
