Didcot Town boss Ady Williams has told his players that the hard work starts now after informing chairman John Bailey he wants to stay at npower Loop Meadow Stadium.

He said he wanted his side to be at the peak of fitness as they look to bounce back following their last-day relegation from the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division.

Williams, who was appointed on January 29 following the resignation of Stuart Peace, told Bailey ahead of the club’s presentation night that he wanted to remain at the helm.

“I think we want to keep the nucleus of the side we had here last season and add to it,” said the ex-Reading centre back.

“I spoke to everybody in the squad individually at the presentation night and got some positive feedback.

“Relegation hurt everybody and our plan is definitely to go straight back up.

“I think that most of the lads are looking to stay.

“There are one or two areas that need looking at and scoring goals is one of them.

“You just have to look at the goals for column to see that. The home form also has to be addressed (Town won only twice at home last term).

“I also hope the pitch will get back to its best. I live near the area and know that the pitch was always a good draw for the likes of Reading for their pre-season friendlies.”

He added: “I think last season the two main issues were fitness and discipline – too many of the big players missed too many games.

“We need a good pre-season – it’s where you get everything in the bank.

“That’s what all the professionals do and I think it’s even more important at this level.

“It will be hard, but I won’t be asking any of them to do what I wouldn’t do.”

Bailey, who has been chairman since 1995, said: “I think Ady’s going to be our best signing of the season. We’re thrilled that he’s staying.”

Meanwhile, Elliot Osbourne-Ricketts won the players’ player of the year accolade at the annual awards night.

Jamie Heapy was the manager’s player, while supporters’ player was Morgan Williams.
