I travelled down to Marsh Farm, near Guildford, last week, accompanied by Colin Howes, hoping to catch some crucian carp.

Using small pellets on very light tackle with small hooks, I landed three crucians of 2.10.0, 2.3.0 and 2.15.0, while Colin had fish of 2.5.0 and 2.7.0, plus several tench of about 6lb.

Marsh Farm is controlled by Godalming Angling Society.

l AN unnamed Oxfordshire pit has produced a cracking carp of 43.6.0 for Somerset carper Kevin Hewitt, who works for Cotswold Angling.

He banked the huge mirror, plus another five carp including a low 30, after targeting a silted area about 40 yards out.

He used a CC Moore acid peardrop hellraiser pop-up.

l FARMOOR Flyfishing Club have organised four free training days at their Darlow Lake, which is near Richworth Linears car park.

These are on May 18 and 25 and June 1 and 8.

l THIS April was the hottest and driest since records began, so with the coarse fishing river season resuming in about six weeks’ time, there are major worries about water levels in our rivers.

Normally, at this time of year they would be carrying some extra water, but I walked up the Channel near Oxford the other afternoon and the Thames is really struggling.

However, this being England, there may be some proper rain around the corner.
