While most people in this country and around the world were glued to their TV sets last Friday, some anglers had more important matters in mind and 20 of them turned out for the Kidlington’s Royal Wedding Open on the Oxford Canal at New Bridge.

Organiser Dave Scott-Picton was pegged up among the boats and emerged the clear winner with a net of skimmers and roach for 7.2.0 on punch and caster.

Dave Kirk weighed in roach, skimmers and perch for a second-placed 6.5.0.

They paid out to five places on this match and the next three anglers all fished punch and maggot. Third with 4.8.0 was Martin Avons, followed by Ron Hillier with 4.3.0 and Henry Clarke with 3.13.0 Last Sunday saw the first match in this year’s Carp League 2011, and 17 anglers travelled over to Rissington.

There were seven weights over the ton and at the final whistle, Rob Guppy (Panshill) triumphed with 222.10.0 of carp on pole and meat.

Predator’s Andy Benwell netted 50 carp for a second-placed 154.4.0 caught on paste fished short and long.

Third was Dave Hawkins with 145.6.0 of carp.

The Anne Malone Memorial match was fished at Stable Lake by 15 and the first two places were taken by family members.

Roger Malone won with a net of method-caught carp weighing 115.4.0. He was followed by his sister, Bernadette, with 53.10.0. John Fisher was third with 52.0.0 A total of £85 was raised for Sobell House.

Beehive AC fished their latest Summer League match at Lower Court.

Kevin Jeacock took top spot with 69.2.0 of carp on pole with meat and maggot, followed by Chris Dingle with 41.0.0 of grass carp on meat, while Richard Mott was third with 28.6.0 of carp. Sixteen fished.

l FAT Phil’s tackle shop is running a charity match and raffle on May 30 in aid of Parkinson’s disease.
