Oxford's Jason Plato battled back from another high-speed crash to win the third race at the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton.

In the previous round at Donington Park two weeks ago, defending champion Plato, 43, dramatically rolled his Silverline Chevroloet Cruze.

But on that occasion, he could not recover to win any of the races at the Derbyshire circuit.

But in Hampshire, Plato’s mechanics rebuilt his battered car and he rewarded them with victory in the third race of the day.

In race one, Gordon Shedden (Honda Racing Team Civic) led home teammate Matt Neal, while Plato slammed into the tyre wall after suffering a puncture at 100mph.

Neal was unstoppable in race two, taking a clear victory, his third of the season, ahead of Andrew Jordan and Shedden.

Plato led from start to finish in race three, but it is Neal who left Thruxton with a 12-point lead at the top of the drivers’ championship.

Plato is 27 points adrift in sixth place.

The next round is at Oulton Park on June 5.
