OXFORD Hawks open their two new pitches today.

Philip Kimberley, the non-executive chairman of England Hockey Board, will perform the official ceremony at the Banbury Road North ground at 1pm.

Senior and junior teams will also play a series of match throughout the day. The cost of the project is around £925,000, with Hawks contributing almost £400,000.

Additional funding has been provided by grants from England Hockey (£165,000) and the National Hockey Foundation (£70,000).

Oxford High School and Magdalen College School have also ‘partnered’ Hawks and pre-paid for pitch use.

Both pitches, which are fully floodlit, have state-of-the-art polyethylene turf. Modest spectator terraces have also been created. It is planned that Hawks’ ground will become the centre for hockey in Oxfordshire, hosting all junior development and academy centres as well as being ‘home’ for the Oxford Lynx Junior Regional Performance Centre.
