Oxfordshire Under 14 Girls completed an unbeaten season in the Southern County Championships with wins over Berkshire and Sussex.

It left Oxon with a record of three wins and three draws for third place in the table behind champions Bucks and runners-up Surrey.

Playing in the picturesque surroundings of Seaford College at East Lavington in Sussex, Oxfordshire brushed Berkshire aside 4-0.

Oxford Hawks’ Georgie Blanchard settled early nerves by slotting the opening goal.

A solo goal from skipper Juliet Gardner (Banbury) made it 2-0, before further strikes from Wallingford’s Shannon Ross and Banbury’s Lyndsey White sealed victory.

After a short break, Oxon made it a brace of wins with a 3-1 victory over Sussex.

The hosts started strongly, but Oxon weathered the early storm with Banbury’s Kate Protheroe having another excellent game in defence.

Gardner and Ross took control of midfield allowing Oxon’s speedy attack, with Eliza Norris (Ashfold School, Dorton), Witney’s Charlotte Manning and Banbury’s Amy Mobley shining, to cut through the Sussex defence.

Bicester’s Chloe Ranson opened the scoring with a superb strike from a short corner.

And Oxfordshire doubled their advantage with a neat goal from Witney’s Izzy Hayes on the stroke of half time.

Sussex pulled one back in the second half and Banbury’s Hannah Vincent made a string of spectacular saves to preserve Oxon’s advantage.

Oxford City’s Charithra Chandran displayed some excellent stickwork to ease the pressure and a goal from Mobley sealed victory.

Oxon’s fine season has been recognised with 11 of the squad being invited to train for South regional selection.

Vincent, Blanchard, Ranson, Ross, Hayes, Mobley, Gardner, Norris, Protheroe, Manning will be joined by Robyn Coburn (Witney) in the training sessions.
