MCCA Trophy

THE Taylor brothers, Jack and Matt from Great Tew, could team up for Oxfordshire’s Group 3 clash with Herefordshire at Colwall on Sunday.

Gloucestershire-contracted Jack, 19, is again named in Oxon’s squad, with his appearance dependent on his commitments with the first-class county.

Fellow all-rounder Matt, 16, who is part of Gloucestershire’s academy will make his debut should he be selected from the 13-man party.

Oxon will be without batsmen Richard Kaufman (unavailable) and Alex Jewell, while seamer Daniel Rowe is doubtful due to the knee injury he suffered in the victory over Dorset.

All-rounder David Smith, the Taylors and Banbury spinner Jimmy Phillips are added to the squad.

Captain Ian Hawtin said: “The reports we have had about Matt have been very positive from Gloucestershire.

“He is a young guy who is doing very well.

“We won’t know about Daniel Rowe until he sees the specialist again. He just twisted his knee, so hopefully it is not too bad.

“There is some doubt over Jack Taylor, so we have named a squad of 13.

“At the end of the day, we have got to pick a balanced side.”

Former Gloucestershire wicket-keeper batsman Steve Adshead smashed 103 off 85 balls as Herefordshire chased 291 to beat Hertfordshire by four wickets in their opener.

With Oxfordshire also having got off to a winning start last week, Sunday’s victors will be very well-placed to reach the quarter-finals.

Hawtin said: “It is a matter of trying to keep the good from we showed against Dorset going and get on a run in this competition.

“If we can do that and win this game, it will put us in an excellent position.”

Oxfordshire host Bedfordshire at Banbury the following week, then a fortnight later visit Hertfordshire in their final group match at North Mymms.

Oxfordshire: from Hawtin (capt), Sabin, Haupt, Hawkes, Shahbaz Ali (all Banbury), Smith (Wollaton), Rowe (Swansea), Ryan (Banbury), J Taylor (Gloucestershire), Blan-chard (Banbury), Geeson-Brown (Oxford), M Taylor (Great & Little Tew), J Phillips (Banbury).
