ALEX Gordon finally ended 22 years of heartache as he hit his first ever six in Kidlington Sports’ 2-1 win over The Woodman in Section 2, writes ANDY BEAL.

Woodman won the first leg 21-17, but lost the next two to Kidlington 22-25, 21-25. Woodman’s Neil Pratley bagged 14 dolls (4-4-6).

Meanwhile, reigning Premier Section champions Six Bells C, Kidlington got the new season off to a pefect start with a 3-0 home win against newly-promoted Black Swan.

Fred Sawyer led the way with 15 dolls (5-4-6) as they won 29-26, 29-27, 31-23.

Alan Goodgame chipped in with 14 dolls 5-4-5 for Bells.

Last year’s runners-up Cric-keters B, who will push Six Bells all the way, also started off with a 3-0 win at home to Garsington Sports Club.

Barry Townsend (6-4-4), Philip Adams (5-4-5) and Kevin Baker (4-6-4) all hit 14 dolls for Cricketers, who clinched the match 33-26, 32-24, 29-25.

Sports’ Ken Maunder top-scored with 13 (5-5-3).

Defending Section 1 champions White Hart won 2-1 at Premier side The George.

George took the opening leg 31-18, but White Hart, for whom Mick Berry top-scored on 13 dolls (4-4-5), hit back 27-26, 29-27.

In Section 3, Team Monarch took the opening leg against Cowley Workers 4-3 on a one-stick shootout, then eased home 24-17, 21-17.

Chris Webb hit a steady 12 (4-4-4) for Workers, while Monarch’s Martin Cook (5-4-3) and Darren Cox (4-4-4) also hit a dozen dolls.

There was little to separate The King & Queen and Nelson B in Section 5 as two legs went to three sticks.

Nelson won the opener on three sticks after a 14-14 draw, but King & Queen took the second leg 20-15, and won the third on three sticks after a 15-15 tie.

Despite Wally Brown failing to trouble the doll all night, The Blackbird still managed to come away from North Oxford Conservative Club with a 2-1 victory in Section 8.

Dave Simms was top dog with a dozen dolls 5-3-4.

In Section 9, Rob Bustin with eleven dolls (5-3-3) helped The Crown overcome The Original Swan 2-1.

Crown won the opening leg 16-10, Swan hit back 10-9, but Crown sealed it 13-8.
