Oxfordshire's Jordan Ayris set up England Under 18s’ first-half equaliser in their 3-2 win over Republic of Ireland in their final Centenary Shield game at Shamrock Rovers.

The 18-year-old Bicester Community College striker raced down the left before turning the ball back from the byeline for Fabio Goncalves De Abreu to make it 1-1 at half-time in front of the Sky TV cameras.

Ayris was replaced at the break by Jack Wood, who made it 2-1 to England, before Goncalves De Abreu grabbed the winner after the hosts had equalised.

The victory ensured England finished third behind joint winners Northern Ireland and Scotland.

LIAM Marshall’s second-half equaliser gave Oxford City Under 15s a 1-1 draw with Vale of White Horse in the Oxfordshire Cup at Oxford City.

Vale had opened the scoring ten minutes after the break when Michael Cole forced home the loose ball from close range after Lewis Willcox’s header from Ollie Thomas’s corner had been saved.

But Oxford equalised five minutes later with Marshall’s cross-shot sailing over keeper Hayden Jones and into the top corner.

With Vale still to play Mid Oxon at Letcombe on Thursday, May 12 (7pm), the competition is delicately poised.

A win for Vale will give them the cup, a goalless draw will make Oxford the winners.

A 1-1 draw will mean a tie between Mid Oxon and Oxon, while any other draw or a Mid Oxon win will give them the cup.

ST Birinus (Didcot) lifted the Vale of White Horse Schools Under 13 Cup with an emphatic 4-0 win over King Alfred’s Community & Sports College (Wantage) in the final at Letcombe FC.

Man-of-the-match Joel Thompson’s 35-yard strike gave St Birinus a first-half lead.

Tom Barrett scored twice after the break, with Jack Westhead adding the fourth.
