Damian Batt is surprisingly back in with a good chance of playing for Oxford United against Lincoln City at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

The right back went off with a hamstring injury in the 0-0 draw with npower League Two leaders Chesterfield last Saturday, and the immediate prognosis was that he was likely to be out for the season.

But manager Chris Wilder says the injury is not serious, and Batt has a more than reasonable chance of being available for the team’s final home game.

“It wasn’t a pulled hamstring, he just felt it tightening up,” said Wilder. “He’s been looking OK and has a good chance.”

Midfielder Simon Heslop is reported to be “touch and go”, following the whack he took at Accrington Stanley, so United’s team could be very similar to the one that started against Chesterfield, with the main exception being Harry Worley for Jimmy Sangare at centre half.

Lincoln, fourth from bottom and just two points above Barnet, in 23rd place, know that a win will guarantee their survival.

And the Imps have beaten the U’s in their last five meetings.

But they are in poor form at the moment, with just one win from their last nine games.

Manager Steve Tilson is without Gambian winger Mustapha Carayol, who has a hamstring injury.

Clark Keltie is fit again after recovering from an ankle injury, which allowed him to come on as a second-half substitute in Monday’s 2-0 defeat against Cheltenham.

Defender Adam Watts is pushing for a start despite losing nearly a stone in weight following a sickness bug.

For United, who will have their player-of-the-year presentations before kick-off, it’s all about trying to finish off at home with a win.

And defender Jake Wright says the team will do their utmost to keep their undefeated four-game run going.

“The gaffer asked us a few weeks ago to go unbeaten till the end and that’s what we’ve done so far,” said Wright.

“We’ve been to some difficult places and the teams we’ve had – I think we’ve played three of the top six, and Barnet, who have been playing really well and went to Gillingham and won 4-2.

“It would have been nice if we could have turned a few of the draws into wins.

“Against Accrington we got a point, Chesterfield we deserved to beat, Barnet maybe edged it, so maybe it’s evened itself out over the last four games.

“We’ve had a good run-in. I like it when we’re playing teams with something to play for, and it’s not like a pre-season kind of game.

“They want to win, and we’re playing like we want to win, we don’t want to get beat.

“They’re going to be nervous, but they’re not going to be giving anything up.

“It’ll be the same the week after. Shrewsbury will probably need to win to get automatic promotion.

“So two games left and hopefully it will be six games unbeaten at the end of the season.”
