Fifteen-year-old William Renfrey had his dreams come true on Wednesday, after his grandmother won a competition to meet England ace Stuart Broad.
Broad led a coaching session, organised by mineral water company Buxton, after William’s grandmother, Catherine Renfrey won the “Meet your cricket hero” competition, run by the Co-Operative store.
Catherine donated her prize to William, which saw Broad run a two-hour coaching session for students at Faringdon Community College.
William had lunch with Broad and received a bat and photograph signed by the England cricket team.
The youngster said: “I was thrilled when I found out that my grandma had won.
“She enters a lot of competitions, but she’s never won anything like this.
“It was really great to have the chance to meet a sportsman of such high calibre, and the best thing was it wasn’t just me, but the whole school that gained from this.”
The signed photo will be included in a raffle at the college, which is aiming to raise money to buy outdoor cricket nets.
