BICESTER A landed the Aubrey Hughes Handicap Shield after beating Vikings D by 25 points in the final at the Gladiators Club.
Tony Gorman, Jason Tustain and Chris Hawkes were in fine form throughout the evening, and by the start of the doubles, they had chalked off Vikings’ 90-point advantage.
Markus Wagner, Bill Mason and Tony Wheeler battled well for Vikings and looked possible winners at various stage.
When Mason beat Hawkes 21-12, 21-20, and Wagner defeated Tustain 21-12, 14-21, anything seemed possible.
But going into the last of the singles matches, Wagner needed a big win against Hawkes to ensure Vikings stayed in contention.
Wagner took the first leg 21-10, and repeating that for the second leg may have been enough.
But Hawkes hit back by edging the second leg 21-20, and Bicester then wrapped up victory with a slick doubles success.
In the semi-finals, Bicester beat Forum A by 22 points, while Vikings saw off Forum C by 179 points.
