Linsey Smith finished with figures of 3-7 as Oxfordshire Under 17 girls kicked off their ECB County Championship programme with an eight-wicket win against Gloucestershire at Cumnor.

Fresh from an eight-wicket friendly victory against Wiltshire two days earlier, Oxfordshire cruised home in their competitive bow.

Winning the toss, Oxon elected to field, and despite the favourable batting conditions, did well to restrict the visitors with some tight bowling.

The first 15 overs yielded just 33 runs for Gloucestershire, and they had reached only 68.

The pressure began to tell and wickets started to fall at regular intervals.

The first of these was a run out as Gloucestershire opener Laura Marshall was dismissed by her name sake.

After this wickets fell at regular intervals as Gloucestershire were restricted to 109-6 from their 45 overs.

Former Oxfordshire player Fi Morris was the pick of the visitors line-up, hitting 59.

While Smith was the pick of the bowling, Carla Wood also shone, taking 2-13 from eight overs on her debut.

After the tea interval, Oxon loss an early wicket as Rhian Todd fell for one.

Marshall also went, but that was the last of the wickets.

Caitie Burton and Emilia Bartram both scored 36 not out to lead Oxon to a comfortable victory with more than seven overs to spare.
