Wallingford are celebrating a highly successful season which saw three of their teams gaining promotion.

Both the first and second ladies teams are going up, with the firsts promoted to the South League.

Wallingford men improved on last year’s tenth place by finishing eighth in the MBBO Regional Division 1.

The fourth team finished second in MBBO Division 8 and gained promotion.

The club’s junior Wildcats academy saw a record numbers of players turning out.

All four of girls and boys teams at under ten and 12 age level represented Oxfordshire for the Southern Regional Tournament, the under ten girls reaching the finals for the first time.

No fewer than 17 Wallingford youngsters representated Oxfordshire and Berkshire this season.

Training for the new season starts on June 3 at The Hithercroft.

The club have appointed former Great Britian player Lisa Letchford as new coach for the next campaign.

Letchford plays for the Reading Ladies first team and represented Britain at the Beijing Olympics.

Meanwhile, 12 teams from Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire took part in Bicester Hockey Club’s inaugural Fox Festival at Cooper School on Sunday.

The winners were Wallingford, who overcame Stratford in the final, with Dogs and Vixens third. Young Farmers took the sportsmanship award.

Meanwhile, Bicester HC’s AGM will take place on Monday, May 16 at Bicester Bowls Club.
