North Leigh 0

AFC Totton 3 (Sherborne 23, Wisken 36, Gosney 90)

North Leigh’s Division 1 South & West play-off hopes suffered a setback as leaders AFC Totton eased to victory at Eynsham Park.

With rivals Hungerford and Thatcham winning, the defeat sees Mark Gee’s team slip out of the play-off places.

Playing in front of their biggest crowd of the season of 153, North Leigh, who gave a full debut to Nick Thorne, found their fourth game in eight days took its toll.

Totton’s Stefan Brown fired wide when well placed, but the Hampshire side opened the scoring on 23 minutes when Nathan Sherborne set off on a surging run before beating Jon Beames with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Beames blocked a close range Brown effort, but from the resulting corner Totton defender Jamie Wisken powered a header home to double the leaders’ lead in the 36th minute.

Substitute Alfie Saunders came closest for North Leigh after the break, but his 25-yard free-kick was parried by Totton keeper Grant Porter.

And leading scorer Michael Gosney wrapped up the points for Totton with an injury time goal.
