The first of the four-match series for the Anne Malone Memorial Trophy was fished by 14 anglers at Stable Lake, Kirtlington, where winner Roger Malone made a long journey worthwhile.
He had travelled all the way down from Preston to fish, weighing in 82.0.0 of carp and bream on method-feeder to the island.
Using the same tactics, Anthony Holder was runner-up with 37.10.0 of carp and bream, while third-placed John Spencer fished the pole with pellet and maggot, catching bream and carp for 32.12.0.
The match raised £75 for Sobell House.
North Oxford had a good turn-out of 17 matchmen for their latest outing on the Oxford Canal at King’s Bridge, which did not fish that well.
I was told that the water was a strange colour and with the hot weather, there were quite a few boats about.
At the weigh-in, three anglers shared the honours with 2.6.0.
Maurice Winstone had a mixed bag on chopped worm and red maggot, Jason Bean caught a couple of decent perch, plus bits, on chopped worm, and Dave Britnell had skimmers after feeding liquidised bread and using punch.
