The Oxford angler has been targeting the big-fish water all winter but has struggled to bank one of its large residents.

After having a word with the owner, he was pointed in the right direction and baited up an area with chopped mackerel, returning to fish the following day at first light.

Using a joey mackerel attached to size 6 barbless trebles, he was soon into a nice fish weighing 18.15.0.

And as he was putting the first fish back, his second rod went and he was soon netting a stunning fish of 24.4.0.

At the end of the session, he had another four fish, including another big one of 20.8.0.

THERE can be few more scenic venues than Blenheim Palace lake, which contains large pike and big perch as well as bream and roach.

Fishing is from a boat only and that’s what Adam Perna did to catch one of its specimen perch of 3.4.0.

He baited up with red maggot and chopped worm and then fished a lobworm on a size 6 Drennan Super Specialist hook to 6lb fluorocarbon hooklink and 8lb line.
