Oxford City’s striking sensation Felipe Barcelos is to have a trial spell at Barclays Premier League side Fulham.

The 19-year-old Brazilian, who recently signed a two-and-a-half year contract, made his City debut away to Bedford in January and has scored seven times to help steer the side to safety.

And the former City youth team players’ impressive displays have attracted the attention of a number of other clubs, including Newcastle United.

“Since Felipe came into the team we have been inundated,” said boss Mike Ford, whose side host Banbury United on Saturday.

“He’s going there for four days, so they can have a look at him.

“He is on a contract with us because we make sure our younger assets are protected.

“He has only played ten games, but has played his part in keeping us up.

“Full credit to him, he has known for a number of games about the interest, but he has concentrated on playing well for us.

“He has been in Britain since he was 14 and was brought up playing futsal (a type of football played on a smaller indoor pitch).

“A lot has happened in a short space of time, but he has handled it well. His attitude is great.”

City are without Liam Malone.

Banbury manager Billy Jeffrey, whose side are not yet safe, said: “We have won our last three games and want to build on that.

“We’re not quite safe yet, so we’ll go to City looking for a win to keep up the unbeaten run.”

Will Green – on-loan from Northampton – could make his first start after a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Didcot Town boss Ady Williams believes his relegation-threatened side can escape the drop ahead of their must-win home game against Halesowen.

On Tuesday, Didcot lost 4-2 at high-fliers Cambridge City, with Williams sent to the stand for disputing a decision.

But Williams, who is without Michael Alexis (banned), rem-ains upbeat.

“To go 2-0 down and come back into the game showed real character,” said the boss.

“It would have been so easy to throw in the towel. I was really pleased with them.

“Can we stay up? Absolutely. I don’t like the phrase must-win game, but my focus is doing just that against Halesowen.”

Williams, who may appeal against the dismissal, added: “I always tell the players to stay calm and not get flustered, but I can’t believe some of the decisions we have been getting when we are fighting for our lives.

“It’s so frustrating, but I suppose that’s what happens when you are in our position.”
