Boss Gordon Geary says Kidlington are determined to give it their best shot against holders Oxford United in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final at the Kassam Stadium tonight (7.45).

It is the first time the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side have reached the final, and Geary says everyone at the club is relishing the clash against the npower League Two side.

“We are massive underdogs,” admitted the former Kidlington player, who has been at the helm for two seasons.

“We still fancy our chances, although it will be difficult. But you never know what can happen.

“It will be interesting to see what team they put out, but whoever they play it will be a tough game.”

The U’s, who lifted the cup last season with a 3-1 win against Banbury, are looking for a Senior Cup hat-trick.

Geary, who was Oxford City reserves manager and Abingdon Town assistant manager, added: “It’s the biggest game in our 100-year-history and we are determined to enjoy the occasion.

“It’s a big occasion for me and a lot of our committee members who also played for the club. It’s great for people like Dave Platt, who has been secretary for more than ten years.

“Everybody at Kidlington is up for it and for most of the players it’s the biggest stage they have played on.

“We are quite a young side and all we can do is our best, and hopefully get a bit of luck.”

Kidlington will be without Danny Mason (suspended), while Ben Weedon, who like twin Chris Weedon was on the U’s books as a youngster, is likely to miss out with a hamstring injury.

Geary said: “It’s a shame for Ben because I know he was looking forward to playing against his old club. I know he played in their first team a couple of times.

“He and Chris were released by Oxford when they were relegated to the Conference.

“But I can’t see Ben recovering in time.”

United will field a strong line-up including Harry Worley, who is suspended for the U’s next two games for ten bookings, Jake Wright, Simon Heslop, Alfie Potter, Tom Craddock, Asa Hall, Josh Payne and Ryan Doble.
