Banbury Utd 4 (Haisley, 40, Stone 49, 80, 82 pen)

Stourbridge 0

A second-half hat-trick from David Stone saw Banbury United all but seal their Premier Division survival in their gave United their biggest win of the season at Spencer Stadium on Saturday.

The only way Billy Jeffrey’s side can now go down is if both Weymouth win their last three games and also Didcot Town win three and draw one of their last four fixtures. Banbury, who have now won their last three games, would also have to lose all their remaining three matches.

Inintially both defences cancelled each otehr out and it wasn’t until five minutes from half-time that Banbury broke the deadlock. Joe Coleman’s corner fwas only half cleared, and Nathan Haisley fired in a shot which took a couple of deflections past a wrong-footed keeper Lewis Solly.

Three minutes into the second-half, Banbury doubled their lead when Declan Benjamin burst into the penalty area. Although first shot was blocked and his follow up was deflected onto the post by a defender, Stone blasted the first of his treble from close-range.

At the other end, Joe Murrell, made a brilliant save from Linden Dovey, before pulling off a great stop from Ryan Rowe, as Stourbridge tried to get back in the game.

Ten minutes from time, Banbury went further ahead when Jack Ashton’s corner was played back from the far post to substitute Will Green, but although his headed effort was cleared off the line, Stone was on hand to lash the ball into the roof of the net to make the score 3-0.

Stone wrapped-up his treble from the penalty spot after he was tripped from behind by Paul McCone, to round off a good day for Banbury.
